Intro: Two American military planes have landed in Southern
Hungary with personnel and equipment for an important support
base for U-S troops who will be sent to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
V-o-A's Central European correspondent Wayne Corey reports.

Text:  The U-S air force planes, carrying more than 100 support
troops and equipment, landed at the Taszar airfield.  The United
States will set up a military staging area and transit center
there and in the nearby town of Kaposvar.

Most of the 20-thousand American troops, who will go with other
NATO forces to Bosnia-Herzegovina, will pass through the staging
area in Southern Hungary.

The American deployment will get underway after the new peace
agreement for Bosnia is signed in Paris next Thursday.  The U-S
troops will travel overland from Hungary to Northeastern Bosnia
where they will be based for about a year.

Hungary, a former Warsaw Pact member, says it is allowing the
United States to operate a temporary military base on its
territory to help establish peace in Bosnia.

Several hundred Hungarian soldiers will also participate in
NATO's peace-implementation mission in the former Yugoslav
Republic. (Signed)
