Intro: East European stock markets were mostly higher this week.
V-o-A's Barry Wood reports from Prague that the Czech Stock
Exchange again outperformed all others in the region.
Text: The Prague Stock Exchange closed higher Friday for the
11th consecutive session. The P-S-E 50 share index was up 14
points or three-and-one-half percent on the week. Trading
volume, however, remained light and there were new worries about
insider trading. Analysts say the outlook remains bright.
In Warsaw, stock prices were lower with the wig index losing 30
points on the week to 85-hundred-three. In Budapest, stock
prices hit a 1995 high Friday. The bux index gained 26 points on
the week to close at 15-hundred-24. That was a gain of nearly
two percent.
The smaller exchanges were mixed. Bratislava gained less than a
point to 160. Ljubljana was down a point to 11-hundred-46. And
Sofia was two points lower to 62. Analysts say all of the
region's markets are likely to see increased activity in the
weeks ahead. (Signed)
